Wow. I'm finally posting! Are you proud?
Well, now that I'm here I'm not quite sure what to write about.
Christmas? New years? HAve I talked about them already? I don't think so. Christmas was good! It was quiet. Andrea doesn't do christmas, so it was just hanni, jürg and me. We had a little christmas tree, and opened the presents on the 24th, after dinner and a nice walk in the dark, where we lit sparklers and sang christmas carols. I felt so european walking along carrying a little latern- just like in the picture books!
New years was spent at Matze's flat, where he and Manu (fellow flatmate) had a party. It was good fun. We watched the huge 15 min fireworks display (Matze's house is one of the highest up houses in Innsbruck, half way up one of the mountains- perfect for firework-watching!) and then went back inside, where we played poker till 5am. The next day we woke up (I got the floor. With no blanket) to a silent city, and everything was Covered in snow- it was so pretty! (a lot of the boys went sledding on new years day!)
The rest of the holidays went fairly quickly. Not a huge amount happened, although a friend of mine, Melissa came down with her host family from Vienna, and I hung out with her for a bit, which was really cool. We spoke all in english, only because we missed hearing NZ accents so much! Then, the week before school went back, was our school maturaball. It was held in Congress, which is Innsbruck's equivilent of the Michael Fowler Centre. Needless, to say, it was pretty big. ok. Very big. The BORG orchestra played from 9-11pm, and people waltzed (that was exciting. I've never played in an orchestra that people actually dance to!). At midnight the sports (Borg specialises in sport and music) people put on a gymnastics display, which may sound a bit strange, but it was quite cool anyway.
The main differences to typical wellington school balls was that alcohol was downed like water from the tap (a small heiniken was €3.90!), and everyone was smoking. There were also I think four or five different bands/DJs. At about two, people started leaving, and we tried to get into 'Irish' as everyone calls it (an Irish bar in town), but for some reason the ball was held on a Thursday, and Irish was just closing down for the night. So everyone just went home instead.
School's going really well. I love my new class, and am taking part in almost everything (chemistry included!). Actually, the only things that I don't partake in are maths, physics and latin, so I think i'm doing pretty well. We all went to a play a couple of weeks ago, which was All in Tirolian dialect, and I'm pleased to say that I understood a lot of it. My german teacher/klassenvorstand was very surprised! Keeping busy with a whole lot of orchestras, and thinking about taking up fencing again.Next weekend we have an AFS skiing day, which should be fun, aaaaand yes!
Think that's all really. So. I shall be off!
Viel spaß und liebe Grüße
Kelda
